Everyone knows that in the fashion world, things move quickly. Budding trendsetters are always on the lookout for the latest covetable items in the chicest of colors to ensure that they stay ahead of the game. Whether you turn to the glossy pages of fashion magazines for your inspiration, or seek to emulate the style of your favorite celebrity, there is no right or wrong way to become au fait with what’s hot and what’s not. However one thing to note is never to throw out anything you love, as it’s likely to come right back to the top of the trending item du jour. We all know that summer fashion has centered on all items midi, festival wear and pretty pastels. So what does the future have in store for us? Here is your fashion forecast for 2014.
Key trends for Spring/ Summer 2014
Although Winter of 2013 is not yet upon us, there is nothing more enjoyable than looking ahead, past the long, cold nights of winter, to the time of year when everything seems better again. Four trends are set to be huge for spring and summer next year: Mod World, Glam Grunge (save some of this year’s 90’s fashions), Spice Trail, and Provincial Picnic.
For the mod world trend, think retro 1960’s style. The key to this trend is simplicity, in both design and color. For a truly stand-out look, go for all-out brightly colored items. Of course, if you don’t want to be the center of attention but you still want to look totally hot, you can take this season’s monochrome and give it a chic new update with stripes, checks and dots. Color blocking will be another massive hit, as will geometric designs, floral prints and harlequin diamonds. Look out for cropped pants, box tops, the mod coat, and A-line shift dresses.
The 90’s trend made a comeback this year but for 2014, requires a few updates, including the likes of sheer plaid and attitudinal florals. This look should mix together contrasting elements for a mixed media effect, although denim will definitely still be on the hot list. Focus on blue-grey, mint blue, and red wine color palettes. Look out for key items including peg leg satin pants, biker jackets, denim jackets, chiffon maxi dresses, midi skirts and peplum tops.
Think ethnic and oriental for this key spring-summer 2014 trend. A combination of Indian and Moroccan influences will see the wearer donning the likes of silk, metallic, sequins and lame materials with tribal prints. Look out for embellished detailing, wrap dresses, sheer pants, and midi dresses.
When it comes to dressing for this trend, sweet and feminine nautical prints are the key. Colors include muted yellows and as many shades of blue as you can think of, and then some. Look out for overalls, button down dresses, colorful blazers and gingham checkered shirts. This trend gives nautical a girly update and is ideal for all sorts of occasions.
I know I’m excited about the upcoming trends for spring-summer 2014. Which trend will you be wearing next year?
