The fashion trends of a new season seldom arrive out of nowhere. Most of the time they flow out of the previous season, so it makes sense to look at the fall / autumn and winter 2012 styles to get an idea of what will be trending in 2013. Here is a sneak peak at what all the fashionista’s will be wearing next year:
VINTAGE & KNITS
An interesting development where handbags are concerned is the hard case handbag. The old style suitcase type bags, whether brand new Louis Vuitton or many years old, give a vintage feel to any outfit. Nostalgia for old things is very fashionable right now and will continue to be well into 2013. Developing the vintage theme further is knitwear that seems home spun and knitted by your gran. The comfort and homeliness of hand knitted sweaters and tops will be very popular well into winter 2013 and beyond, with thinner knitwear worn in spring and summer.
SPORTY & COLOR BLOCK
The sport theme, inspired by the summer Olympics in London, has been featuring in summer and the trend will continue into 2013. Red, white and blues feature strongly; stripes and numbers appear everywhere and so do trendy baseball style caps. Neoprene garments and color blocked dresses will move into 2013; this relaxed style will suit winter clothing very well. Athletic type mesh tank tops will feature strongly for spring and summer. Sneakers for casual street wear, sport wedges, rugby tees and parkas join the sports line-up.
20’s / FLAPPERS
The remaking of The Great Gatsby has inspired the return of the Twenties style. Flapper dresses with dropped waists and plunging necklines personify the era. Fringes on dresses and tops, chiffon, feathers and beading on dresses match the trend in jewellery as well; feathers have been featuring strongly for summer 2012 and will continue to do so in 2013. A new twist to this theme is the use of geometric deco patterns on material and metallic finishes. Palazzo pants are also once more in fashion and will still be worn into the new seasons.
FLORAL & COLORFUL COMBO’S
Florals are back with a bang. Dresses have belted waists; colors and designs are romantic and ladylike. Pants are also patterned in florals and worn with matching or contrasting tops or jackets. Floral hair adornments are just as fashionable and feature strongly with these dresses especially. Some floral patterns are folk-inspired and feature bright and unusual combinations of colors. Other patterns resemble seemingly random brush strokes on a canvas and large splotches of bright near-neon colors.
NATURE PRINTS
Tropical safari prints continue the trend in bright fabrics. Patterns that feature strongly include leaves, the ever popular animal skin prints, tie dye, birds and feathers. Colors are mostly red, gold, olive, khaki and aqua: the colors of the African bush, which inspired this trend. Materials which work well with these prints are chambray, linen, leather and beading. Garments include handkerchief dresses, sarongs, halter necks, tunics, slit maxi skirts, patterned pants and camp shirts. (View the pretty animal print nail art ideas here).
MILITARY / UNIFORM
Other items in vogue for 2013 include velvet garments in deep colors. The uniform style, especially the military look, will continue to feature strongly. Colors will return to earthy hues for most garments. These hot new fashion items as well as the others mentioned above will be available from couturecandy.com.
